Through modern technology diamonds can be cut into various shapes. Diamonds don't only come in round shapes but also in other shapes known as fancy shapes. These shapes include, but is not limited to, the pear, princess, oval, radiant, square and heart shape or cut. A diamond's value is determined by what is known as the 4 C's These are: Cut Colour Clarity Carat Even an untrained eye can see the vast difference a the cut can make to the brillinace of a diamond Notice how sample 1 has far more brilliance than sample 2. This is simply due to better craftsmanship by the polisher or quality of the store.Carat weight Be careful of some of the tricks of the trade.Many retail stores sell many smaller stones on a single ring claiming a larger carat weight e.g. 50 smaller diamonds that equal up to 0.50 carat or a half a carat diamond ring according to them.Remember a solid diamond (sample 3) is worth far more that many smaller diamonds (sample 4 ) making up the same carat weight.Some stores also place a very small diamond in a ring and make the rest of the ring up with cubic zirconia still claiming a diamond ring at a great price.
